Profile

Marc is a highly accomplished economic researcher and strategist who has worked across both the public and private sectors. He is a labour market economist by profession, and has over ten years experience of education, training and skills policy and issues. In his last role before founding his own business, Marc worked as National Research Manager for the Learning and Skills Council. Whilst at the LSC Marc was influential in establishing the organisation as a recognised source of authoritative intelligence on skills and labour market issues.

Marc’s particular specialisms include: employer skill needs; local economic strategy development; the food and drink, care and retail sectors; and learner needs analysis.

  • Co-author of Improve’s Stage 2 Sector Skills Assessment.

  • Author of a mapping study of Adult and Community Learning in Shropshire.

  • Author of a comprehensive skills supply assessment on behalf of ENTO, sector skills body.

  • Co-author of a skills supply assessment in Plymouth on behalf of Plymouth City Partnership.

  • Author of a report on the employment growth potential of several key sectors in the Midlands on behalf of the Transport & General Workers Union.

  • Author of report for Wychavon district council that assessed the issue of higher unemployment within the Evesham town area and the role local partners could jointly play in reducing this.

  • Recently co-authored a needs analysis of key groups in the labour market in support of the South East RDA’s regional ESF strategy.

  • Co-author of two recent Skills Needs Assessments: the South East Regional SNA (on behalf of all South East LSCs) and the Berkshire SNA on behalf of Berkshire LSC.

  • Co-author of a recent study looking into the options around establishing a comprehensive skills brokerage service within Coventry and Warwickshire.

  • Project Director and co-author of a mapping and evaluation of Adult and Community Learning in Shropshire.

  • Co-author of a recent strategic market assessment on behalf of East Berkshire College.

  • Recently completed evaluation study of IIP Profile organisations on behalf of Investors in People UK.

  • Co-author of a mapping study of Work Related Learning in Coventry and Warwickshire.

  • Co-author of a recent report considering the options around establishing an adult apprenticeship programme for the learning disabilities sector.

  • Project Director for the LSC National Employer Skills Survey – the largest survey of skills issues amongst employers ever undertaken in the UK.

  • Author of numerous sector skills reports, including reports into the automotive, food and drink, and care sectors.

  • Architect of the LSC’s measure of employers’ engagement in developing their workforce.

  • Considerable experience of working in partnership with organisations from across the public, private and voluntary sectors to develop strategies and implement projects.

  • Author of published local economic assessments of Solihull and Worcestershire.

  • Extensive knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative research techniques, together with in-depth knowledge of relevant data sources such as the LFS, and National Employer Skills Survey.
